PERSONALITY
Little more is known about Seymour's youth than the fact his lineage, making him the target of hatred and persecution, resulted in his eventual exile to Baaj alongside his mother. Prior to her sacrifice to become his final aeon, a period which established within him a nihilistic view of the world that would only mature with time, it is unclear what sort of child Seymour was: what sorts of hobbies he enjoyed, how his talent for summoning was discovered, or if he had any sort of respect for his father or desire to follow in his footsteps. We only come to understand Seymour through the destruction of his youth and his metaphorical rebirth, his rejection of Spira's order and faith, his disdain for and murder of his father, his preoccupation with Yuna and her guardians, and his plan to become Sin and end the world's suffering...by ending the world.
Seymour is, in every sense, like Sin: the personification of Spira's cycle of tragedy and endless sorrow. He is a man whose ambition was born from the ruination of his childhood, the abandonment of his father, loss of his mother, and betrayal of his own people. He spent many years in isolation, with nowhere to belong but the desolate island of Baaj where he had been exiled. By the time he finally reenters into Guado society and joins the Order of Yevon, the damage is already done: the trappings of what seemed a gentle boy are stripped away leaving in their wake only the callous and twisted man he became.
As a Maester, Seymour appears to support the teachings of Yevon and its clergy, which elect to maintain Spira through hope, but in truth, his motives are quite paradoxical. Having experienced utter hopelessness at the hands of his protectors from which there was no salvation, he believes now that the only way in which Spira can be saved is to destroy it. However, Seymour does not act with the haste of a man bent on saving the world, but with the patience of someone determined to realize a plan for revenge more than a decade in the making. As much as he wishes to put to a stop the cycle of death that commands Spira, he wants more to make the world experience his pain.
His resolve is so great that Seymour is even able to kill his own father to ensure his succession as leader of the Guado and appointment as Maester of Yevon, which give him unparalleled access to the Farplane, Spira's sealed histories, and further his ultimate goal of becoming Sin. In fact, killing comes easily to Seymour, even naturally, and Jyscal was not the last to fall as a result of his machinations: innocent Spirans were injured when he orchestrated the fiend attack on the Blitzball stadium in Luca, numerous lives were lost as a result of his sanctioning Operation Mi'ihen, countless Al Bhed and Guado were killed when he arranged for Yuna to be taken from Home to Bevelle for their wedding, and even a fellow Maester, Wen Kinoc, was killed because he stood in Seymour's way.
Even in death Seymour's appetite for revenge could not be sated; he refused to be sent by Yuna to the Farplane and continued to live on in Spira as one of the Unsent, pulling strings and taking lives, each one bringing him a step closer to his dream—and blinding him to his own corruption. For at his core Seymour is not very different from the protagonists, whose mothers died and fathers were unavailable to raise their children to adulthood. It's possible that, had Seymour the same support and sense of belonging that both Yuna and Tidus had, he could have turned out very differently, but such is not the case. Rather than see himself in both heroes, Seymour becomes obsessed with Yuna whom he can use, and resentful of Tidus who has everything he doesn't and continues to bar his path.
He is not entirely without redeeming qualities, however. While seldom agreeing to anything that won't also benefit him in some way, Seymour's feelings for Yuna are more than a mere requirement for the final summoning; he is fascinated by her unwavering resolve and gentle passion, by all the ways that she is different from him, and even though he is willing to forfeit her life so that he can become Sin, it seems he is only willing to sacrifice her for that goal. It stands to reason that, if one woman could move him to such depths, there must also be other things in Spira that he enjoys...although the exploration of such interests doesn't appear to be a pursuit he affords much time at all. The life of a Maester demands that he travel, and his infatuation with vengeance consumes the rest of his free time, leaving nothing to spend on frivolities such as fun and friendship.
ABILITIES
Seymour's abilities have been separated below into three umbrellas.
GUADO PHYSIOLOGY (Canon)
Farplane Scent
The Guado are a people who are capable of differentiating the living from the unsent (or undead) by their smell alone, and even though Seymour is only half-Guado, he also possesses this talent.
MAGIC (Canon)
White Magic
Healing magic (Cure, Cura) that can restore a person's physical health (but cannot cure disease or other infectious ailments) and can inflict damage on undead opponents.
Scan (also known as Libra) reveals enemies' strengths and weaknesses.
Protection spells (Shell, NulBlaze, NulShock, NulTide) which decrease magical damage, and nullify one fire, lightning, or water-based magic respectively. (Not applicable to non-magic elemental attacks.)
Black Magic
Elemental spells (Fire, Fira, Firaga; Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga; Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga; and Water, Watera, Waterga) whose abilities illustrate their namesake and with -ra and -ga additions, increase in damage potential. (A rough example of that being: Fire deals first degree burns, Fira deals second degree burns, and Firaga deals third degree burns.)
Flare (also known as Nuke) inflicts non-elemental damage (roughly 3x stronger than Firaga) and, despite its name, is merely fire-like in appearance.
Break (also known as Stone) renders targets completely petrified in rock.
Banish (also known as Warp) removes an opponent from Seymour's vicinity by teleporting them elsewhere.
Overdrive
Requiem is a non-elemental magic ability unique to Seymour that summons exploding balls of light.
SUMMONING (Canon)
Anima (an aeon, whose fayth—or sacrified soul—was Seymour's own mother) possesses two attacks: Pain, which (only with player permission) instantly kills enemies not immune to death spells and heavily damages those that are; and Oblivion which, like Seymour's own Overdrive ability, is a non-elemental magic attack that has a widespread range.

ABOUT
Seymour serves as one of three primary antagonists of Final Fantasy X. He is ultimately defeated just prior to the last battle versus the other two: Jecht and Yu Yevon, both of whom have some manner of control over Sin, a monstrous creature created by Yu Yevon that brings death and destruction to Spira, whose elimination is the end goal of the game's heroes and the focal point of the story. But Seymour is not an antagonist because of the heroes or even to spite them; shaped by years of neglect and loneliness, the seed of villainy he would one day embrace was sown long before the main events of Final Fantasy X could unfold.
From the very moment he was born, Seymour's parentage was his albatross. The child of a Guado and a human, it was expected that his birth would bridge the gap between both peoples. Instead, his existence only fostered hatred between them. Eight years later, believing it was in everyone's best interest, Seymour and his mother were sent by Jyscal, Seymour's father and leader of the Guado, to live in exile on the island of Baaj.
Two years passed and Seymour and his mother traveled to Zanarkand where, despite his protestations, she became one of the fayth whose aeon she hoped would be used by her son to defeat Sin and win the love of the people of Spira. But the loss of his mother meant that he was truly alone and so, overcome with grief and lost in mourning, Seymour returned to Baaj where he would remain in isolation until he was eighteen, his exile lifted by his father.
He returned to Guadosalam where, for seven years, he assisted his father in carrying out the duties of a Yevon priest and eventually assumed the post of High Priest of Macalania Temple. Traveling in secret back to Zanarkand, Seymour acquired his mother's aeon, Anima, and transported the statue of her fayth back to Baaj Temple where he made frequent visits and would begin to formulate his grand scheme to become Sin and destroy Spira, 'saving' it from its spiral of death and sorrow.
And, two weeks prior to Tidus' arrival in Spira, Seymour made his first move: he murdered his father, becoming leader of the Guado in his stead and a newly appointed Maester of Yevon.
His machinations did not stop there, however. After arriving in Luca for the Blitzball tournament being held to celebrate Grand Maester Mika's 50 years in office, Seymour gave an impressive show of Anima's power before spectators and officials alike, rescuing them from a fiend attack that he had secretly orchestrated. This demonstration not only earned him more of the peoples' approval, but also drew the notice of High Summoner Braska's daughter, Yuna. Having become a summoner in her father's footsteps, she was someone Seymour knew he could use, someone whom he would later volunteer against her will to be the keystone of his twisted scheme.
He attempted to court Yuna during the events of Operation Mi'ihen (a collaborative effort arranged by the Al Bhed and the Crusaders to defeat Sin by luring it into a trap using one of its own spawn, an effort Seymour rightfully predicted would fail) and, following Sin's devastating attack on the operation's front line forces, even offered to be her beacon of strength. This, coupled with his marriage proposal once the party reached his home in Guadosalam, were testaments to his ambition, but it is important to note that during these fleeting events Seymour did develop something resembling real feelings for Yuna—real feelings that would do nothing to prevent his own undoing.
Upon visiting the Farplane, the resting place of the dead whose gate lies in Guadosalam, Yuna learned from a sphere left by Jyscal's spirit that Seymour had murdered his father. That knowledge prompted her to go ahead and accept Seymour's proposal in hopes of being able to bring him to justice, but after she was escorted to Macalania Temple by Tromell, Seymour's retainer, Yuna's Guardians (Tidus, Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri, Auron, and Rikku) discovered the same sphere and learned both what Yuna was planning and the truth about Seymour. They followed in hot pursuit to the temple, and in being unable to thwart their arrival, Seymour sealed his own fate. Defeated and killed in the anteroom of his own temple, his retainer and bodyguards' interference kept him from being sent by Yuna to the Farplane.
Of course, death would not deter him. Not long after, the party was separated from Yuna during their retreat from Macalania Temple. Yuna was taken to Home where she was then abducted by the Guado and brought to Bevelle on Seymour's orders. The Guardians, aided by the Al Bhed, learned where Yuna was being held and rushed to her rescue, and while she was still married to Seymour at the temple, they arrived in time to help her escape. Their plan was not without flaw, however, and later they stood trial for their treasonous acts against a Maester of Yevon and the order itself, a trial which found them all guilty...and revealed that not only was Seymour now an Unsent, but so too was the Grand Maester of Yevon, Yo Mika.
It was also revealed during the trial that the Order of Yevon had conspired to hide the truth about Sin from summoners and Spirans alike: Sin could not truly be defeated and all their sacrifices to kill it had been in vain. Afterwards, Yuna and her friends were sentenced to die in the Via Purifico, a fiend-infested underground with perilous aquatic paths that were erroneously thought to be enough to kill them. But to be certain they would not survive long if they managed to escape, Seymour and Maester Kinoc were to await Yuna and her Guardians at the exit. Of course, Seymour killed Kinoc, sacrificed his Guado entourage and, cornering the party on Bevelle's Highbridge, absorbed the pyreflies of the deceased in preparation for the first of many fiendish changes he would make to acquire greater power...
